Salesian International School Setagaya Students Participate in the JMMUN Conference
On March 28 and 29, 2026, 13 junior high school students participated in the Japan Metropolitan Model United Nations (JMMUN) Conference. JMMUN is an academic simulation program in which students take on the role of country representatives and discuss international issues through formal debate and diplomacy. This program is especially valuable for junior high school students because it introduces them to global issues at an early stage and helps them develop essential academic and interpersonal skills. Through participation, students are encouraged to think critically, speak confidently, listen carefully, and engage respectfully with diverse perspectives in an international learning environment.
As a beginner group, our students gained meaningful experience in debate style, communication, and collaboration while interacting with students from different schools. The conference provided them with an opportunity to learn how countries form policies, how bilateral relations are considered in international decision-making, and how United Nations rules and regulations are applied in practice. Students also benefited from the keynote session delivered by the Ambassador of Sweden to Japan, which helped deepen their understanding of diplomacy and global governance. Overall, participation in JMMUN was a valuable learning experience that strengthened students’ confidence, broadened their worldviews, and encouraged them to become more informed and responsible global citizens.
