Greetings and salutations! Welcome to AG English class! The advanced English class is designed for students with native or near native English levels. As a result, it is closer to a “Kokugo” class than traditional junior high school English classes, with a focus on discussion, writing, and literature. In our main unit topic, students are currently exploring the world of theater. They are learning about drama, improv, and even the language and works of Sir William Shakespeare! Improv is acting without a script, making things up as you go, and this has led to many funny moments!

Our class also does a lot of reading. We just finished reading Mrs. Frisby and the Rats of NIMH by Robert C. O’Brien, which spurred a lot of interesting discussion about the morality of animal testing and the fears some people have of new technologies. Our next book is Madeleine L’Engle’s A Wrinkle in Time, and I can’t wait to see what sorts of interesting discussions that book will create. By all means, bring your own ideas and join us!
